About Me

About Me

I am a music teacher and guitarist based in Greenock, Scotland. I began playing piano and guitar at a young age and very quickly knew that was what I wanted to do as a career. Growing up I played in bands but also in a mandolin and guitar youth orchestra as well as learning piano. I achieved an HND at Edinburgh College and BA (Hons) at Perth UHI in popular music and throughout that time tried to get involved in as many different aspects of the music industry as I could. As a result I’ve developed skills in teaching, conducting, arranging and composing, recording and playing in ensembles ranging from function duets and ceilidh bands to musical theatre and orchestras.

Some of my qualifications are:

BA (Hons) Popular Music – Perth University of Highlands and Islands

Grade 8 Guitar (both Rockschool and Guitar Encounters)

Grade 5 Piano (ABRSM)

Grade 5 Music Theory (ABRSM)

I also specialise in extended range guitars, this is a passion that developed through the influence of artists such as Animals As Leaders and Charlie Hunter. Seven and eight string guitars can be very versatile and so I am able to look at pieces I play with a new approach and can also teach students who are interested in exploring the possibilities offered by extended range instruments.
